What can BakBalls be used for?
BakBalls is specifically designed to treat your back. Another product specifically designed to treat your neck is in R&D at present and will be released in 2008.
Can I use it for my lower back and neck?
You can use BakBalls from your upper back just above your shoulder blades all the way down to your lower back. The pressure from BakBalls reduces in your lower back due to the natural curves of the spine so to increase pressure, raise both knees and hold them with your hands with your feet off the ground. The higher you raise your knees the more pressure you will feel as your spinal curve is flattened onto the BakBall. If this position becomes too uncomfortable or your pain levels increase, lower knees and place feet on floor once again.
How should it feel?
Initially you may feel direct pressure on the painful points of your spine, this may produce slight discomfort. Don't be alarmed by this, this product is designed to target these areas and when you have completed using BakBalls along the length of your spine you should feel looser and more flexible. You may feel slight muscle soreness similar to that felt after exercise, this is to be expected and should reduce after 1-2 days. If this discomfort does not reduce or you experience a new symptom or sensation please cease use and consult your local doctor or health professional immediately.
Should I still see my physiotherapist / chiropractor / massage therapist?
BakBalls is an additional method of mobilising your spine to relieve pain and stiffness, it does not replace or substitute treatment by your health professional but complements it. If pain worsens or you experience new symptoms you should see your health professional. Also BakBalls do not remove any underlying causes of your back pain such as poor posture or poor lifting technique etc therefore you still need to focus on those important preventative measures.
Are there conditions that are not suitable or safe to use BakBalls for?
Yes, you should not use BakBalls if you are pregnant or suffer from any of the following conditions: Severe, acute back pain, a history of spinal conditions such as previous Back Surgery, Scoliosis, Osteoporosis, Past Spinal Fractures, Bone tumours, Metastatic cancer, Haemophilia, Rheumatic Conditions (eg Rheumatoid Arthritis / Ankylosing Spondylitis), Spondylosis / Spondylolisthesis, Neurological Conditions (eg Spina Bifida / Spinal Cord Injury). If you suffer from any of these conditions please do not use Bakballs unless otherwise advised by your doctor or health professional. There is a risk involved with using BakBalls (if you are osteoporotic, have a history of metastatic cancer or have a spinal tumour) of causing a spinal fracture. There is also a small risk of suffering an increase in pain levels from using BakBalls. To minimise this risk, do not use BakBalls if you suffer from one or more of the conditions listed above.
